Los Angeles, CA - August 17, 2008 Frank Catalano, author of ART OF THE MONOLOGUE
and THE CREATIVE AUDIENCE is set to speak at the 25th Annual Writer's Conference
sponsored by San Diego State University. Catalano is a Master's graduate of both
the University of Southern California's prestigious Professional Writing Program and
the University of Hawaii Asian Theatre program. He currently is a faculty member at
the School of Theatre of the University of Southern California and is part of the
Theatre Arts, Film and Social Science faculties at Moorpark College, Pierce College
and Pasadena City College.

As a playwright, Mr. Catalano's works have been produced in New York City, Los
Angeles, Honolulu, Hawaii and Dayton, Ohio including The American Rose Garden,
Cyclotron (La Mama, N.Y.C.), Evolution, Waiting For to Go (Kennedy Center, Hawaii),
and Saturday Nights. His play Autumn Sweet, produced by the Dayton Playhouse was
optioned for film by Warner Bros. studios. Autumn Sweet also received staged
readings at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and the El Portal Theater in Los Angeles.
His play The Resting Place has had a staged reading by the Echo Theatre Company as
part of a grant from the Showtime Network and Myths and Tangos toured in Los
Angeles.
As an executive, Catalano has served in various capacities at Lorimar Studios,
Beverly Hills Playhouse, Southern California Center for the Arts and Warner Bros.
where he had a "first look" writing deal for the development of television and
motion picture properties. He has also written and performed in animated television
series and feature films including DIGIMON DIGITAL MONSTERS, THE ADVENTURES OF
DYNAMO DUCK for Fox TV, the Sci-Fi series ROBOTECH and ABC television series
including LA LAW, NYPD BLUE, MURDER ONE, CIVIL WARS and the new hit series UGLY
BETTY.

His new book, Art of the Monologue is a collection of 52 original monologues which
classified by Age (Casting type), Gender and Genre. In addition, student actors can
select monologues by performance attributes including emotion, dialect, physicality,
and use of language. This makes the ART OF THE MONOLOGUE a useful tool for acting
students and a source of fresh audition material. In addition, the monologues can be
performed collectively, under the title 52 PICKUP, as an ensemble piece. Catalano
states: "I wanted to create a book that could be used in the classroom for specific
acting goals, as a source of auditions and equally as a source of performance
material for students. Most acting students hate to perform Monologues, this book
will give them new insight about how to create distinctive choices, have a more
meaningful creation of their characters and ultimately communicate those choices to
an audience more effectively." ART OF THE MONOLOGUE is available at various college
campuses and book sellers including: www.Amazon.com, www.Abebooks.com,
www.Alibris.com, and www.Borders.com.

THE CREATIVE AUDIENCE - which explores the audience role in the creative process of
visual and performing arts will be available later this year.
